This is the war memorial of the original church and is based on the form of the Ruthwell Cross and is carved in granite. The cross has the symbols of the four gospels at the top with panels on the stalk of the cross. From the base upwards Melchizedek blessing Abram after his victory over the four kings, Aaron and Hur supporting Moses, David slaying Goliath, risen Jesus, St. Michael. Each face of the cross is carved and if you look closely you will find the Glasgow Coat of Arms.
