  8. Attention Bookworms - Our book for October is The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, which has already garnered a host of awards. It is a gothic Victorian tale crammed with incidents and will be discussed at our next meeting on Thursday 26th October at 2.00pm. This is an open meeting and all are welcome. Tea and coffee will be served.
  9. Quiz Night - Just another reminder there will be a Quiz Night in the Church Hall on Thursday 26th October at 7.00pm. Teams of 4-6 people are welcome. Entrance is £5 per head (free for school age) and all profits go to the Kitchen Fund. Don't be afraid to come in ones and twos as we can create teams on the night!
  10. Church House and new Kitchen - we now are well on the way to having plans and warrants for the new kitchen which is phase one of our Hall refurbishment. This will free up Church House and allow it to be separated from the rest of the buildings and sold. We are currently seeking Grant assistance from various bodies and the General Trustees with whom we continue to liaise as well as Presbytery. Once funds are in place we hope to instruct the work to begin in March 2018.
  11. Financial Challenges - so far 2017 has seen a marked drop in our income, which coupled with the loss of funds from the use of church house means we have had to draw on reserves already this year. The Finance Committee have had discussions with Presbytery and with the national Stewardship Team and have taken steps to cope with cashflow issues.
Meanwhile we invite all members to reassess their giving and to sign up to the easyfundraising scheme to support fund raising efforts (see leaflets in hall). A gift day is planned for the coming year to coincide with the launch of the new kitchen and Presbytery have reduced our level of Ministry and Mission contribution from £53 OOO to £48 OOO to help us over the "hump" until we get our renovations etc completed.
  12. Congratulations to Stuart Crawford who is now Minister Elect of Newton Mearns Parish Church. We will be running a bus to his Ordination service in November and a sign-up sheet is available in the hall. Date will be announced once Presbytery confirms it.
  13. Lodging House Mission Christmas Cards available to purchase this week and next Sunday.
  14. Junior Church are working towards Advent and their nativity production which will take place on 17th December. Meanwhile they are also continuing their charity work raising funds for Callum's Cabin. They will be holding a Craft and Baking Stall in the hall starting first Sunday in Advent. More information both online and on the special flyer.
